Data Analysis Methods for Research in Social Sciences
(Economics, Management, Commerce, Finance and Other Social Sciences)
(From 25th -26th & 28th Oct 2021)
Overview of the Workshop:
The Department of Economics, University College of Arts and Social Sciences, Osmania University is organizing a Three Day National Workshop on “Data Analysis Methods for Research in Social Sciences’’ (Economics, Management, Commerce, Finance and Other Social Sciences) for PG Students/M.Phil/PhD/PDF Scholars and Faculty Members in Social Sciences from 25th -26th & 28th Oct 2021. Any systematic investigation towards increasing the sum of knowledge can be termed as research papers and thesis. Writing of organized analysis of a subject to record and disseminate information to present a point of view on a selected topic is research paper and thesis. One of the major purposes of basic research is to create new knowledge. It is the purpose of scientific research to go beyond experience and common sense, which frequently are quite limited and inadequate. The workshop intends to advance a framework, a process, and compositional approaches for designing qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods research in social sciences. Increased interest in and use of qualitative research, the emergence of mixed methods approaches, and continuing use of traditional forms of quantitative designs have created a need for this workshop.
The purpose of this research methodology workshop is threefold. First, we will discuss the relationship between the universes of economic theory and its related data. Second, we will discuss research methodology tools and techniques for specific areas of statistics and econometrics. Third, we will discuss applications of statistical and econometrics techniques in social sciences research. In particular, analysis of data and their interpretations to some specific areas in Economics, Commerce, Finance, Management, etc. The emphasis is on the practical mode of teaching which will help the participants to learn the technicalities for handling softwares (SPSS and E-Views) for data analysis in a systematic manner. Thus the schedule aims to have a topic-wise brief discussion on theory followed by thorough practical sessions. The workshop proposes to give a thorough exposure to the cross-sectional, time series and panel data analysis and the related statistics and econometric tools. The participants will get good training on important softwares such as SPSS and E-Views will learn how to do data analysis using the different softwares. By the end of the programme, participants will be able to develop their conceptual clarity and practical knowledge to run the software for data analysis and interpretation for their research.
Objective:
An understanding of basic statistics and econometrics principles and their uses in estimating economic relationships is vital. The emphasis will be on applications using SPSS and E-Views. Thus, the primary objective is to impart training on how to carry out simple but valid data analysis on economic data i.e., how to choose the right method and how to interpret & arrive at the right conclusion.
Outline of Workshop:
1. Structural Equation Modelling-(SEM) using Smart PLS
2. Introduction to Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed Research Methods
3. Sampling Methods and Sample Size Determination
4. Correlation & Regression Analysis using SPSS and E-Views
5. Tests of Causality in Time Series using E-Views
6. Panel Data Analysis using E-Views
7. How to write a good research paper for UGC/Scopus/ABDC listed journals
